If you're curious about how the movie might differ from the original script, or how Russo had a darker take on a sequel to NotLD, check out this episode.

On this special "lost" episode of the Cult Film Club we reach back into our archive to save a show that we thought was unrecoverable after we recorded it last year. Thanks to some technical wizardry we were able to piece together our discussion on 1987's Gary Marshall fish out of water romantic comedy, Overboard! We talk about our favorite scenes, the obvious chemistry between real-life lovebirds Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, the great child actors, and the fun score and soundtrack. So knock yourself on the head, get abducted by a single handyman and join us as we go overboard for Overboard.

On this episode of the Cult Film Club Shawn, Jaime and Paxton dig into the 1987 Michael J. Fox rock drama, Light of Day. Directed by Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, American Gigalo) and co-staring Joan Jett, Light of Day was a commercial and critical failure, but we feel it deserves a closer look. So quit your job at the tray-stamping plant, buy an econo van and go on tour with us as we dig into a very overlooked gem.

On this mini episode of the show we visit the Concession Stand to talk a bit about Gremlins 2.  After covering the first film on episode 43 of the show we also ended up talking about the sequel, but it was too much for one episode, and not enough for two.  So sit back as we have a short conversation about the sequel, Phoebe Cates' horrible head gear, evolved Gremlins, Joe Dante's penchant for making cartoon movies, and why the salad gremlin rules all.

On this episode of the Cult Film Club Jaime, Pax and Shawn are kicking off year five of the show by covering one of our favorite Henson fantasy flicks, Labyrinth from 1986.  Though the film was a financial flop when it was released, it has become a cult hit over the past 30 years, to a point where it might just be one of Jim Henson's most beloved films.  Starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie, the film is a modern day fairy tale all about that awkward balance between dreams and reality and when to let go of your childhood.  Featuring astounding creature designs inspired by artist Brian Froud, music by Bowie and sporting a script co-written by Monty Python's Terry Jones the film is unlike anything else that was released before or after.

On this very special holiday edition of the Cult Film Club, hosts Shawn, Paxton and Jaime finally tackle the most awesome genre Christmas film of all time, Gremlins.  Released in 1984 and directed by Joe Dante, this film is the perfect mash-up of family film and gross out horror fun.  Starring Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates, the flick centers on a strange creature called a mogwai that is presented as a Christmas gift to Billy Peltzer by his inventor father.  Before the audience knows what to make of the mogwai Gizmo, he multiplies and the litter of new critters soon morph into an army of tiny murderous Gremlins.  Can Billy and his girlfriend Kate save the town of Kingston Falls before the Gremlins destroy it?

Jaime, Paxton, and Shawn are back with another episode of the Cult Film Club, this time taking a look at one of the most obscure movies we've ever covered, Nice Girls Don't Explode from 1987.  Starring the queen of the nerdy 80s girls, Michelle Meyrink (Revenge of the Nerds, Real Genius, Joy of Sex), the film centers on April who tends to cause her environment to spontaneously combust whenever she gets hot and bothered.  We talk about the film, the cast, and why you should never call Wallace Shawn Helen...

In this episode of the Cult Film Club hosts Jaime, Shawn and Pax tackle the seriously under-appreciated 80s teen comedy Just One of the Guys!  Starring Joyce Hyser, Billy Jayne (Jacoby), Billy Zabka, and Clayton Rohner, the film centers around aspiring writer Terry as she learns the hard way that sometimes it sucks to be a girl.  After having her article entry for the local paper's internship contest squashed by her journalism teacher, Terry decides that the only way she can get a fair shake is to switch schools, and genders.  Terry goes undercover as Terrance to submit her article for the contest but soon finds herself mixed up with a local bully, the romantic life of her new friend Rick, and trying to keep her little brother from getting an STD.

We talk about our history with the film, the wonderful cast, the amazing soundtrack, and why this film hasn't found the appreciative audience that it really deserves...
